New vs Used GPU —Worth Paying Full Price?
A new RTX 4070 costs around S$850 at retail. A used one in good condition? Closer to S$350–$400. That’s the same gaming performance for less than half the price. So why do people still buy new?
The honest answer is: sometimes new makes sense. But most of the time — especially in Singapore where used GPU supply is strong — you’re paying a massive premium for a box and a receipt.
Head to head
New vs used — the real difference
Buying new

Depreciates heavily the moment you open the box
Limited stock at fair prices in Singapore
Buying used
Second-hand GPU
40–60% cheaper for identical gaming performance
Depreciation already absorbed by first owner
Strong supply in Singapore used market
No warranty — must buy from trusted source
Risk of mining history if not tested
Best value when bought tested and graded

The depreciation curve
Why used wins on value
A new GPU loses roughly 30–40% of its value in the first year. By year two, you’re looking at 50–60% depreciation. The person who buys new absorbs all of that. When you buy used, someone else already took that hit.
The gaming performance doesn’t depreciate. An RTX 3080 bought for S$300 today runs the exact same games at the exact same framerates as it did when it cost S$1,100 new. The pixels don’t know how old the card is.
Decision guide
When to buy new vs used
Buy new when…
New makes sense
- You need the absolute latest architecture (AI features, DLSS 4, AV1)
- Warranty is non-negotiable for your use case
- You’re buying a flagship card (4090) where used prices are close to new
- You plan to resell within 12 months
Buy used when…
Used makes sense
- Your budget is under S$600
- You want maximum performance per dollar
- You’re buying from a tested, graded source
- You play at 1080p or 1440p — last gen cards still dominate here
